Why do I need an old version of Firefox for NREGA digital signature?
NREGA and VBGRAMG government portals use Java applets for digital signatures. Starting from 2017, all modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox 52+) removed support for Java plugins (NPAPI). Firefox 43.0.1 is one of the last stable versions that fully supports Java applets, making it necessary for digital signature operations on these portals.
What is VBGRAMG and why does it need Java?

Is this tool safe to use?
Yes. Firefox is downloaded directly from Mozilla's official archive server (ftp.mozilla.org). Java is downloaded directly from Oracle's official java.com download server — no third-party mirrors. Why is Firefox auto-update disabled?
If Firefox updates to a newer version, it will permanently lose Java applet support. This means your NREGA/VBGRAMG digital signatures will stop working. The setup tool applies 5 independent protection layers to ensure Firefox stays at version 43.0.1 and never auto-updates.
Can I use this alongside my regular browser?
Absolutely. Firefox 43 installs to its own folder and does not interfere with Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or any other browser. We recommend using Firefox 43 exclusively for NREGA/VBGRAMG digital signature work, and your regular browser for all other internet browsing.
How do I add my portal URLs to the Java exception site list?
Open the exception.sites file in the setup folder using Notepad. Add your NREGA or VBGRAMG portal URLs, one per line (include http:// or https://). Save the file and run setup.bat again to apply the updated list. Common URLs like nrega.nic.in are pre-filled.
Why Oracle Java and not a free open-source Java?
These portals need the Java browser plugin (an applet plugin that runs inside Firefox). Only Oracle's Java 8 includes this plugin — free open-source builds like Azul Zulu, Temurin, or Corretto ship the Java engine but leave out the browser plugin, so applets simply will not load. That is why Oracle Java 8 (32-bit) is required. The tool downloads it directly from Oracle's official java.com server, free of charge for this use.

Troubleshooting NREGA Java Firefox Issues

Java applet not loading in Firefox

Make sure you are using the installed Firefox 43, not a different version. Check that Java is enabled: type about:addons in Firefox's address bar, go to Plugins, and ensure "Java(TM) Platform" is set to "Always Activate".

Digital signature popup not appearing

Your portal URL may need to be added to the Java exception site list. Open exception.sites in the setup folder, add the portal URL, and re-run setup.bat.

Windows SmartScreen warning

When you first run setup.bat, Windows may show a SmartScreen warning because the file was downloaded from the internet. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway". This is normal for downloaded scripts.

"Java is not recognized" error

Re-run setup.bat to reinstall Java. If the issue persists, restart your computer after installation.
